RAMP-IPB Holds a Seminar on Social Technopreneurship and i-STEP 2012

Recognition and Mentoring Program of Bogor Agricultural University (RAMP-IPB) again held an technopreneurship improvement program for students through training of Intensive Student Technopreneurship Program 2012 (i-STEP 2012). The acitivity regularly conducted since 2006 was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Dr Yonny Koesmaryono IPB at IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor, Monday (2/7).

The 2012 I-STEP series of activities srarted with the National Seminar of CP Prima on Social Technopreneurship, cooperation between RAMP-IPB and PT Central Proteinaprima. The seminar presented some speakers consisting of Zainal Abidin (Social Technopreneur Academy), Ir Tri Mumpuni (Director of the Institute for Business and People Economy / IBEKA), Dr H. Didiek Goenadi (Research Director of PT Nusantara Plantation), Alfian Lim and Edwin ZH. Jonathans (PT Central Proteinaprima Tbk), and Ms. Ewa Wojkowska (Co-founder and CEO of The Kopernik).

Director of RAMP-IPB Dr Aji Hermawan said, the development of technology-based entrepreneurship (Technopreneurship) should have a positive impact on many people. Meanwhile, most technological development by research institutions and universities is not at present still optimally solving problems in our society.

Therefore, technological solutions and business development are needed to deal with the problems of poor and unemployment in Indonesia, which is still high in number. In addition, technopreneurship devlopment is necessary to make an optimum use of the rich natural resource of Indonesia.

“RAMP-IPB believes that social technopreneurship is one solution to such problems. It gives a solution by developing entrepreneurship with the use of technology to solve community problems,” said Dr Aji, who was accompanied by Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Ono Suparno.

In another part, Dr. Aji explains that the i-STEP 2012, which will start for two weeks (2 – 16 July 2012), is for selected students who have innovative ideas from various universities in Indonesia. In the training, students are given a structured and in-depth training to help them start from generating and formulating ideas, developing technology into products, to expanding its impact on society. “The program involves a number of experts, academics, and practitioners who are highly experienced in their fields to equip students to be technopreneur,” said Dr Aji.

The i-STEP 2012 training involves 50 selected students, consisting of 28 men and 22 women. They come from 20 universities throughout Indonesia. “We hope in the future a generation of young people will develop and able to build self-sufficiency for themselves and society through the knowledge they have. With God’s willing, Indonesia will be better,” concluded Dr. Aji. (Mtd)
